South Riverside Lisbon

Almada, Cristo Rei and Casa da Cerca

Tour Highlights

In the south bank of the Tagus river, in Almada, we find the Cristo Rei statue. It is an iconic image of the city of Lisbon. Standing 215 meters above the sea level, it offers a 360º panoramic view over the two banks of the Tagus River.
The monument was inaugurated in 1959 and was built as an acknowledgment
for Portugal being ouf of the second World War.
The sanctuary is visited by thousands of people. Together with Fátima and Santiago de Compostela, they form the golden triangle of the pilgrims in the Iberian Peninsula.
Casa da Cerca is part of Palácio da Cerca, considered the largest and most characteristic example of eighteenth-century civil architecture in the city of Almada, dating from the 17th to the 18th century, with Baroque and Romantic influences. Casa da Cerca, located in the historical center of the city of Almada, at the top of the cliff, allows to enjoy a privileged view over the Tagus River and the city of Lisbon, being nowadays an exhibition space dedicated to contemporary art.
